Tax Manager
The Opportunity
Are you currently in public practice working with private company clients on tax planning and compliance? Would you like to be a key player in the growth of a dynamic practice and advance your career at your own pace? Do you have a keen desire to help your clients and co-workers grow and be successful? As a Tax Manager at HLH LLP, you will be an important part of our management team and will be a key support to our clients, partners and the entire HLH team. In your role you will help us continually build our internal tax team while growing your own practice with the support of our dedicated partners and professionals. You will be the ‘go to person’ within our office for all things tax whether it be working directly with our partners to address tax, estate planning or succession concerns of our existing clients, keeping the staff up-to-date on the latest taxation changes or helping us navigate potential compliance issues surrounding our clients’ tax filings. At the same time, you will be given the opportunity to build your own practice and business network within our supportive and dynamic environment.
The Candidate
As the ideal candidate you will relish being the ‘resident tax expert’ who loves proactively solving problems and working closely with our partners, professionals and clients. You will have experience with advanced tax planning areas such as reorganizations, estate planning, creditor proofing and tax research. You will have experience in working directly with clients and delivering quality, comprehensive and understandable results for them and their companies. You will bring 5 or more years of public practice experience combined with completion of or enrollment in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course.

Senior Accountant
Take advantage of this opportunity to become part of our growing firm and join our dynamic, lean-thinking team! We are passionate about working with our clients, providing quality accounting services and having some fun while we do it! The ideal candidate will have a CA/CPA designation with at least 2 years of public practice experience. This position will provide file preparation, staff supervision and client advisory services including:
- Preparation and review of financial statements and tax returns in accordance with firm standards (NTRs, Reviews and Audits)
- Preparation and review of GST returns, personal tax returns, T4s & T5s
- Tax planning and general client advisory and assistance. Recommendations and consultation with clients on internal systems and procedures
- Mentorship and support to existing staff, regular contributions to improving firm policies and procedures
Qualifications
- CA/CPA designation; minimum of 2 years work experience in public practice
- Experience with complex tax planning scenarios, corporate reorganizations, succession planning and company valuations
- Proficient in MS Office Suite; Demonstrated strong experience with Caseware, TaxPrep, Sage and/or QuickBooks
- Demonstrated client service and communication skills
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills; organized and able to manage multiple deadlines
