Tax Manager

As a Tax Senior Manager at HLH LLP, you will be an important part of our management team and will be a key support to our clients, partners and the entire HLH team. In your role you will help us continually build our internal tax team while growing your own practice with the support of our dedicated partners and professionals. You will be the ‘go to person’ within our office for all things tax whether it be working directly with our partners to address tax, estate planning or succession concerns of our existing clients, keeping the staff up-to-date on the latest taxation changes or helping us navigate potential compliance issues surrounding our clients’ tax filings. At the same time, you will be given the opportunity to build your own practice and business network within our supportive and dynamic environment.

The Candidate

As the ideal candidate you will relish being the ‘resident tax expert’ who loves proactively solving problems and working closely with our partners, professionals and clients. You will have experience with advanced tax planning areas such as reorganizations, estate planning, creditor proofing and tax research. You will have experience in working directly with clients and delivering quality, comprehensive and understandable results for them and their companies. You will bring 5 or more years of public practice experience combined with completion of or enrollment in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course.

Senior Accountant

The ideal candidate will have a CA/CPA designation with at least 2 years of public practice experience. This position will provide file preparation, staff supervision and client advisory services including:

  •  Preparation and review of financial statements and tax returns in accordance with firm standards (NTRs, Reviews and Audits)
  •  Preparation and review of GST returns, personal tax returns, T4s & T5s
  •  Tax planning and general client advisory and assistance. Recommendations and consultation with clients on internal systems and procedures
  •  Mentorship and support to existing staff, regular contributions to improving firm policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • CA/CPA designation; minimum of 2 years work experience in public practice
  • Experience with complex tax planning scenarios, corporate reorganizations, succession planning and company valuations
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; Demonstrated strong experience with Caseware, TaxPrep, Sage and/or QuickBooks
  • Demonstrated client service and communication skills
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills; organized and able to manage multiple deadlines

Bookkeeper and File Intake Coordinator

This position is client-facing in one aspect and critically important to our office achieving our goal of eliminating waiting waste as well.  The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills and experience working in a professional services environment.  Flexible hours also allow the successful candidate the opportunity to work around their own schedule.  If you enjoy working with people and being an integral part of the team, this is a position for you!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Client year end engagement intake review and follow up
  • General bookkeeping functions using cloud-based accounting software
  • Identifying and engaging with clients for whom accounting software automation would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have QuickBooks Online experience and great interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-3 years full-cycle bookkeeping experience
  • Previous experience compiling year end working papers is an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and QuickBooks Online.  Familiarity with Caseware working papers software would be beneficial
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills; self-motivated individual who is able to work independently
