As a Senior Tax Associate at HLH LLP, you will be an important part of our team and will be a key support to our clients, partners and the entire HLH team. In your role you will help us continually build our internal tax team with the support of our dedicated partners and professionals. You will be involved with all things tax whether it be working directly with our Senior Tax Manager and partners to address tax, estate planning or succession concerns of our existing clients, keeping the staff up to date on the latest taxation changes or helping us navigate potential compliance issues surrounding our clients’ tax filings. At the same time, you will be given the opportunity to build your own skill set, knowledge, and business network within our supportive dynamic environment.
As the ideal candidate you will have already finished your CPA designation and be seeking a career specializing in helping clients navigate the ever-changing Canadian taxation landscape. You’ll have a passion for helping our team proactively solve problems and researching potential alternatives to our clients’ tax challenges, all with the support and guidance of the partners and our Senior Tax Manager. You will have had exposure to privately held companies and the tax issues they face and want to broaden your skill set and formal education in a dynamic and supportive environment.

This position is client-facing, and the ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, and experience working in a professional services environment. This role will also provide administrative support to Partners and members of the Hahn Lukey & Houle LLP Chartered Accountants team. If you enjoy working with people and being an integral part of the team this is a position for you! Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Answering calls, greeting clients, sorting mail, processing payments and booking appointments
- Drafting correspondence and documents; proofreading and editing documents
- General administrative duties: ordering supplies, filing, printing, data entry, photocopier maintenance etc.
- Light bookkeeping duties may be required (posting payments, preparing bank deposits)
- Other duties as required
We are looking for someone to join our team who has demonstrated the ability to: manage changing priorities, take initiative and be proactive when it comes to completing tasks. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills; self-motivated individual who is able to work independently
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in reception, office administration or an administrative support role (preferably within a professional services environment)
- Diploma in Office Administration, Business Administration or equivalent; combination of education and related experience will be considered
- Experience with Simply Accounting, QuickBooks and other accounting software packages would be an asset (i.e. CaseWare)
- Must have the aptitude and ability to learn other computer applications as required
